We love it when we get tattoo submissions with amazing stories behind their pug tattoos, and this is certainly one of them. Thanks to Heather for sharing her beautiful memorial tattoo of Java the Pug.
I had my pug tattoo done recently, in the summer.
My husband and I got married in January 1999 . I always loved pugs, for my 23rd birthday that year, he looked for a pug for me. He found a nice breeder right before my birthday. Java was the only male and the runt of a litter of 6. He was born one day after my birthday and we knew he would be part of our family. We visited him and his sisters a few times, even with an over an hour ride.
He came home with us when he was a little guy, only weighing 3 pounds. Our vet told us, he was very small and not to expect much. We did and we were not disappointed. He was an amazing furry child. He was loved and cherished, but he truly loved everyone. No one who met him did not fall in love with him. When we had our first and only human child, we worried he may be jealous or react badly. Instead, he fell in love with her too, sleeping under her crib and as she grew, letting her pretty much do whatever she wanted to him, including dressing him up as a princess. Always patient, always loving, always the best dog I have ever met.
We lost our sweet boy to cancer in 2010. 11 years seemed like a blink of an eye. Not a day goes by that I do not miss him. I am crying as I type this. My artist, Jim Lopresti, not only captured one of my favorite photos of Java, he listened as I talked and felt that pain.
