Japug appearance
The appearance of japugs vary greatly from one to another, as they don’t always look 50% pug and 50% Japanese chin. Some japugs look more like the pug while others may have more of the Japanese chin’s features. However, with both the parent breeds being small sized, the cross breed will also most likely be small. This can make the cross breed the perfect option for those live in a small flat or house. Japus can come in various different colours including black, fawn, white, apricot and a mixture of these colours. Some of the common features of the japug include the following:
- Small size
- Curly tail
- varied hair colour
- Large eyes
- Dark mask
- Short hair
- Long hair
- Flat ears
- Squishy face
So if you love how pugs or Japanese chins look, you will be a fan of the japug too!
Characteristics of the Japug
As with all other hybrid / cross breeds, it is difficult to tell what kind of temperament and characteristics a japug will have as these could also significantly differ. The best way to get a clearer idea is to look at the parent breeds’ characteristics, the Japanese chin and the pug. In general the japus is a great companion dog. There are often similarities between the parent breeds and the japug. For example, they can be friendly, great with children and other pets, playful, affectionate, heavy shedding, relatively easy to train. Japugs can, therefore, be the ideal choice for many different types of family.
How much do Japugs cost?
It is not uncommon for cross breed dogs to cost less than their parent breeds. Furthermore, how much they cost can be highly dependent on their age, which breeder you are buying the dog and where they are located. The prices can vary between £300 ($450 US approx) and £800 ($1200 US approx). When you’ve found a japug you want to get, make sure to buy from a reputable breeder, and also don’t forget to ask to see the puppy’s parents. If the breeder, for instance, refuse to do this, this is something you should watch out for.
